New Registration Fees!!   Visit us on Facebook     A PLACE OF HONOR Let me start by introducing myself, I am Senior Trooper James P. Colunga. My current station is Waxahachie in Highway Patrol / CVE. As I near the end of my DPS career I feel an emotional duty to give a final place of HONOR to the officers that have given the ultimate sacrifice for this department and the citizens of Texas. The past five years I have participated in the Police Unity Tour. This tour was organized the raise awareness of the “National Police Memorial”, in Washington D.C. A memorial built to honor all U.S. police officers killed in the line of duty. I will be using the same principals in my plans for the DPS Memorial Ride. The event will be held on a Saturday in May during “National Police Memorial Week”. We will be riding (bicycles) from Austin (headquarters) on a designated route. Each participant rider is to pay a MINIMUM $30.00 TOTAL fee.   This entry fee will be distributed in the following manner:   50% of the money collected will go towards the building of a new DPS Memorial 50% will go into a DPS Disability Fund All FUNDS RAISED THROUGH SPONSORSHIP WILL BE USED TO SET UP AND PROMOTE THE DPS MEMORIAL RIDE. AFTER THE EVENT 50% OF THE SPONSOR FUNDS WILL BE EQUALLY DISTRIBUTED BETWEEN THE MEMORIAL AND DISABILITY FUNDS.   This fund is being created for DPS officers and their families in times of medical and monetary situations. To assist with out of pocket expenses where insurance fails. To assist where death occurs NOT in the line of duty. Cases will be presented to a board for recommended distribution. After the DPS Memorial is paid off, the distribution of funds will be amended.   A fund will be maintained for maintenance and improvements to the memorial. The extra funds will be added to the Trooper Disability Fund allowing increased fund distribution.   The unity Tours motto “We Ride for Those Who Died” holds true here. We should never forget them but should also remember our brothers and sisters in need. Let the brotherhood of the “Thin Blue Line” show its caring side and this.
